The wall hangings ‘Happiness’, ‘Imperial’ and ‘Reflection’ were created one after another for an exhibition at Kuwait National Gallery in 2019. The subject matter had to be abstract. This suits the way I create and design. The way I create is always about the amalgamation of colour and texture. How one colour relates to another. The surprise of mixing and matching and miss-matching of colour is the very aspect of what excites me.
‘Happiness’ is loosely inspired by garden design. It is a bird’s eye view of an imagined garden. The vertical and horizontal lines are pathways which crossover rippling streams of water. Some areas are mosaic like, other areas are more freely stitched. They are allowed to wander across the surface and intermingle like flowing foliage.
